EFFECT: An English penny and an American half dollar are gently tossed from hand to hand and shown to be quite normal coins. You now lett hem both rest in the palm ofy our left hand, and close your fist over them. Keeping your fist closed, you now poke into your fist with the fingers of your right hand and take out the penny, show it, and put it into your pocket. You now ask the question, "Which coin is left in my hand?" The answer is of course, "the half dollar coin." You open your fist to show that it is indeed the half dollar. "Correct", you say, "now let's try that again".
You now replace the penny in your fist, close your fist, and once again poke into it and this time take out the half dollar coin and put it into your pocket. You now ask the question again. "Which coin is left in my hand?" The answer will of course be, "the penny". You now open your hand and show that it is not the penny but the half dollar coin. You throw this down on the table, and at the same time throw the penny down and say, "No you're wrong, the penny was in my pocket!" The coins are thrown down on the table and can both be inspected and are of course quite normal coins.
